You can use Yandex Object Storage to backup and restore data using MSP360 Backup.

MSP360 Backup (formerly CloudBerry Desktop Backup) is designed to back up and restore data, including in cloud storages. The free version of MSP360 Backup allows you to create a maximum of 200 GB of backups.

To set up backup in Object Storage using MSP360 Backup:

  1. Get your cloud ready.
  2. Set up a service account.
  3. Create a bucket.
  4. Install MSP360 Backup.
  5. Configure MSP360 Backup.
  6. Test backup.

If you no longer need the resources you created, delete them.

Get your cloud readyGet your cloud ready

Sign up in Yandex Cloud and create a billing account:

  1. Navigate to the management console and log in to Yandex Cloud or register a new account.
  2. On the Yandex Cloud Billing page, make sure you have a billing account linked and it has the ACTIVE or TRIAL_ACTIVE status. If you do not have a billing account, create one and link a cloud to it.

If you have an active billing account, you can navigate to the cloud page to create or select a folder for your infrastructure to operate in.

The cost of backup using MSP360 Backup includes:

  • Fee for data storage.
  • Fee for data operations.
  • Fee for outbound traffic from Yandex Cloud to the web.

Set up a service accountSet up a service account

In Object Storage, you back up data under a service account. If you do not have a service account, create one.

To create a service account:

  1. Assign the editor role to the service account.
  2. Create a static access key. Save the ID and the secret key right away. After you close the window, the secret key will no longer be available.

Create a bucketCreate a bucket

  1. Go to the Yandex Cloud management console and select the folder to perform the operations in.
  2. On the folder page, click Create resource and select Bucket.
  3. In the ** Name** field, enter a name for the bucket consistent with the naming conventions:
  4. In the Object read access, Object listing access, and Read access to settings fields, select Restricted.
  5. Specify the maximum size of the bucket in GB.
  6. Click Create bucket.

Install MSP360 BackupInstall MSP360 Backup

  1. Optionally, install Microsoft .NET Framework.
  2. Install MSP360 Backup Desktop Edition. To download MSP360 Backup, enter the required details and click Download.
  3. Run MSP360 Backup and select Use Home Edition (free). Click Next.
  4. Click Start Free Trial.
  1. Install MSP360 Backup. Select the OS to download:

    • macOS
    • Ubuntu, Debian
    • SUSE, Red Hat, Fedora, CentOS

    Enter the required details and click Download.

  2. Run MSP360 Backup and select Use Home Edition (free). Click Next.

  3. Enter your email address and click Finish.

  4. In the window that opens, click OK.

Configure MSP360 BackupConfigure MSP360 Backup

  1. Run MSP360 Backup.

  2. To open the main menu, click the MSP360 Backup logo in the upper left corner.

  3. Select Add Storage Account.

  4. From the list of providers, select S3 Compatible.

  5. In the window that opens, enter the storage properties:

    • Display Name: Yandex Cloud.
    • Access Key: ID of the static access key.
    • Secret Key: Private key.
    • Service point: http://storage.yandexcloud.net/ The Bucket name field should display a list of your buckets.
    • Bucket name: Bucket where you will keep your backups.

    Click OK. If the configuration is correct, the Yandex Cloud storage will appear in the Storaged accounts window. Close the window.

  6. Click Home.

  7. Select Local to Cloud. In the window that opens, click Next.

  8. Select the Yandex Cloud storage and click Next.

  9. Enter cloud-backup-plan as the backup plan name and click Next.

  10. Leave the default options and click Next.

  11. In the file tree, specify the directories and files that you want to back up. Click Next.

  12. To retain copies of all files in the selected folders, click Backup all files in selected folders. Click Next.

  13. On the screen warning you that you cannot compress and encrypt your backups in the free version, click Next.

  14. To check your backups for integrity, leave the Enable Full Consistency Check option enabled. Click Next.

  15. By default, backup is manual. If you need to set a backup schedule, select Enable schedule. Click Next.

  16. Set the file storage duration. By default, backups are stored permanently. Click Next.

  17. On the Pre / Post Actions (actions before and after the backup) screen, leave the default settings and click Next.

  18. To get notified about the results of copying, enable I want to receive a notification email and specify the cases:

    • When the backup plan fails or finished with warnings.
    • In all cases.

    Enter the email address, recipient name, and email subject. Click Next. In the window prompting you to confirm your email for receiving notifications, click Ok. Check your mailbox. In the message you received, click the link to confirm your email address.

  19. Check the backup plan and click Next.

  20. Click Finish.

  1. Run MSP360 Backup.

  2. Click Backup files.

  3. Click + and select S3 Compatible.

  4. In the window that opens, enter the storage properties:

    • Display Name: Yandex Cloud.
    • Access Key: ID of the static access key.
    • Secret Key: Private key.
    • Endpoint: http://storage.yandexcloud.net/ The Bucket field will display a list of your buckets.
    • Bucket: Bucket where you will keep your backups.
    • Advanced settings. Leave the default values.

    Click OK. If the configuration is correct, the Yandex Cloud storage will appear in the Backup plan: cloud storage window.

  5. Select the Yandex Cloud storage and click Continue.

  6. Enter the backup plan name: cloud-backup-plan. Click Continue.

  7. In the file tree, specify the directories and files you want to back up. Click Continue.

  8. To add all files from the selected directories to the backup, opt for the Backup all files in selected folders setting. Click Continue.

  9. On the screen warning you that you cannot compress and encrypt your backups in the free version, click Continue.

  10. To check your backups for integrity, leave the Enable Full Consistency Check option enabled. Click Continue.

  11. By default, you make backups manually. If you need to set a backup schedule, select Enable schedule. Click Continue.

  12. Set the file storage duration. By default, backup storage is not limited in time. Click Continue.

  13. To get notified about the backup results, enable I want to receive a notification email when plan completes and specify the cases:

    • In all cases.
    • When plan fails: When the plan fails fatally or completes with warnings.

    Enter the email address, recipient name, and email subject. If you need a detailed report, select Generate detailed report. Click Next. Check your mailbox. In the message you received, click the link to confirm your email address.

  14. Check the backup plan and click Done.

  1. In the MSP360 Backup app, select the Backup plans tab.
  2. To start the backup, click in the cloud-backup-plan row.
  3. In the Yandex Cloud management console, select the backup bucket folder.
  4. Select Object Storage.
  5. From the list of buckets, select the bucket with your backups and make sure all required files have been copied.
  1. In the left panel of the MSP360 Backup app, select the Backup plans tab.
  2. To start the backup, select cloud-backup-plan and click Start.
  3. In the Yandex Cloud management console, select the backup bucket folder.
  4. Select Object Storage.
  5. From the list of buckets, select the bucket with your backups and make sure all required files have been copied.

How to delete the resources you createdHow to delete the resources you created

To stop paying for the resources you created:

  1. Delete the objects from the bucket.
  2. Delete the bucket.
