Cloud Backup agent

Installed on target resources, the Cloud Backup agent enables them to interface with Cloud Backup and the backup provider.

Learn more about the backup provider and data sent to it in Service activation and backup provider.

The Cloud Backup agent performs the following actions on the resource:

  • Registers the resource in Cloud Backup.
  • Reports the resource's connection status to Cloud Backup.
  • Backs up the resource according to the backup policy.
  • Recovers the resource from a backup.
  • Disconnects the resource from Cloud Backup.

Note

To perform operations in Cloud Backup, including deleting backups, your folder must have at least one active resource with the Cloud Backup agent installed. If there are no such resources, create a temporary new Yandex Compute Cloud VM connected to Cloud Backup to perform the required tasks.

Depending on the type of your target resource, you can install the Cloud Backup agent either automatically or manually.

You can automatically install the agent when creating a new Compute Cloud VM or BareMetal server, provided its OS image supports automatic agent installation. You can manually install the Cloud Backup agent on all types of target resources.

For more on installing the agent on target resources, see Connecting resources you need to back up to Cloud Backup.
