Stopping and starting a ClickHouse® cluster

You can stop and restart a ClickHouse® DB cluster as needed. There is no charge while your cluster is idle: you continue to pay only for the storage size and backups based on the pricing policy.

Alert

If a cluster uses local SSD storage (local-ssd), its computing resources are not released when it's stopped. This means that you are charged in full even for a stopped cluster.

Stopping a cluster

You can stop the cluster if you're not going to use the DBMS you launched for a while.

  1. In the management console, go to the folder page and select Managed Service for ClickHouse.
  2. Select a cluster from the list, click , and select Stop.
  3. Confirm that you want to stop the cluster and click Stop.

If you do not have the Yandex Cloud CLI yet, install and initialize it.

The folder specified when creating the CLI profile is used by default. To change the default folder, use the yc config set folder-id <folder_ID> command. You can specify a different folder using the --folder-name or --folder-id parameter.

To stop a cluster, run the command:

yc managed-clickhouse cluster stop <cluster_name_or_ID>

You can request the cluster ID and name with a list of clusters in the folder.

  1. Get an IAM token for API authentication and put it into the environment variable:

    export IAM_TOKEN="<IAM_token>"

  2. Use the Cluster.Stop method and send the following request, e.g., via cURL:

    curl \
    --request POST \
    --header "Authorization: Bearer $IAM_TOKEN" \
    --header "Content-Type: application/json" \
    --url 'https://mdb.api.cloud.yandex.net/managed-clickhouse/v1/clusters/<cluster_ID>:stop'

    You can get the cluster ID with a list of clusters in the folder.

  3. View the server response to make sure the request was successful.

  1. Get an IAM token for API authentication and put it into the environment variable:

    export IAM_TOKEN="<IAM_token>"

  2. Clone the cloudapi repository:

    cd ~/ && git clone --depth=1 https://github.com/yandex-cloud/cloudapi

    Below, we assume the repository contents are stored in the ~/cloudapi/ directory.

  3. Use the ClusterService.Stop call and send the following request, e.g., via gRPCurl:

    grpcurl \
    -format json \
    -import-path ~/cloudapi/ \
    -import-path ~/cloudapi/third_party/googleapis/ \
    -proto ~/cloudapi/yandex/cloud/mdb/clickhouse/v1/cluster_service.proto \

            "cluster_id": "<cluster_ID>"
        }' \
    mdb.api.cloud.yandex.net:443 \
    yandex.cloud.mdb.clickhouse.v1.ClusterService.Stop

    You can get the cluster ID with a list of clusters in the folder.

  4. View the server response to make sure the request was successful.

Starting a cluster

You can restart STOPPED clusters.

  1. In the management console, go to the folder page and select Managed Service for ClickHouse.
  2. Select the stopped cluster from the list, click , and select Start.
  3. Confirm that you want to start the cluster: click Start in the dialog box that opens.

If you do not have the Yandex Cloud CLI yet, install and initialize it.
