Allocating memory for the /tmp directory

Written by

Management console
CLI
Terraform
API
  1. In the management console, select the folder containing the function.
  2. Select Cloud Functions.
  3. Select a function.
  4. Go to the Editor tab.
  5. In the Memory section under Additional settings, enable Allocate memory for the /tmp directory.
  6. In the Allocated memory field, specify the amount of memory to allocate.
  7. Click Save changes.

If you do not have the Yandex Cloud CLI yet, install and initialize it.

The folder specified when creating the CLI profile is used by default. To change the default folder, use the yc config set folder-id <folder_ID> command. You can specify a different folder using the --folder-name or --folder-id parameter.

To allocate some RAM for the /tmp directory, run this command:

yc serverless function version create \
  --function-name=<function_name> \
  --runtime <runtime_environment> \
  --entrypoint <entry_point> \
  --memory <RAM_size> \
  --source-version-id <version_ID> \
  --tmpfs-size <RAM_size_for_tmp>

Where:

  • --function-name: Function name.
  • --runtime: Runtime environment.
  • --entrypoint: Entry point in <function_file_name>.<handler_name> format.
  • --memory: Amount of memory (RAM).
  • --source-version-id: ID of the function version from which you want to copy the code.
  • --tmpfs-size: RAM amount you want to allocate for the /tmp directory.

With Terraform, you can quickly create a cloud infrastructure in Yandex Cloud and manage it using configuration files. These files store the infrastructure description written in HashiCorp Configuration Language (HCL). If you change the configuration files, Terraform automatically detects which part of your configuration is already deployed, and what should be added or removed.

Terraform is distributed under the Business Source License. The Yandex Cloud provider for Terraform is distributed under the MPL-2.0 license.

For more information about the provider resources, see the documentation on the Terraform website or mirror website.

If you do not have Terraform yet, install it and configure its Yandex Cloud provider.

To allocate some RAM for the /tmp directory:

  1. In the configuration file, add the tmpfs_size argument for the yandex_function resource and specify the amount of RAM to allocate.

    Example function description in the Terraform configuration:

    resource "yandex_function" "test-function" {
        name               = "<function_name>"
        user_hash          = "<hash>"
        runtime            = "<runtime_environment>"
        entrypoint         = "<entry_point>"
        memory             = "<RAM_size>"
        tmpfs_size         = "<RAM_size_for_tmp>"

        content {
            zip_filename = "<path_to_ZIP_archive>"
        }
    }

    For more information about the yandex_function resource properties, see the provider documentation.

  2. Check the configuration using this command:

    terraform validate

    If the configuration is correct, you will get this message:

    Success! The configuration is valid.

  3. Run this command:

    terraform plan

    The terminal will display a list of resources with parameters. No changes will be made at this step. If the configuration contains any errors, Terraform will point them out.

  4. Apply the configuration changes:

    terraform apply

  5. Confirm the changes: type yes into the terminal and press Enter.

You can use the management console to check memory allocation for the /tmp directory.

To allocate some RAM for the /tmp directory, use the createVersion REST API method for the Function resource or the FunctionService/CreateVersion gRPC API call.
