What goes into the cost of using Cloud BackupWhat goes into the cost of using Cloud Backup

The cost of Cloud Backup depends on the number of resources to back up, such as Yandex Compute Cloud VMs and Yandex BareMetal servers, and the total storage space used by backups.

Backing up resourcesBacking up resources

In Cloud Backup, you start paying for a Compute Cloud instance or BareMetal server as soon as you link it to a backup policy. Regardless of the resource status, you will be charged until you unlink it from the policy.

If you delete a VM in Yandex Compute Cloud using the management console, this will also unlink such a VM from all policies. If you delete a VM using the CLI, Terraform, or API, it will not be unlinked from policies automatically. You need to unlink it yourself.

If you need to unlink a BareMetal from a policy, you will still have to do it on your own.

The minimum billing unit is one resource (VM or BareMetal server) to back up, per hour.

Using the storageUsing the storage

You are charged for the total size of storage used by backups.

The minimum billing unit is 1 hour of storing 1 MB of data.

In all calculations: 1 GB = 230 bytes, 1 MB = 220 bytes.

If a secured resource is stopped or deleted, its backups are still stored in Cloud Backup and you continue to pay for their total size. The backup size depends on the following:

  • VM disk usage or BareMetal server disk usage
  • Amount of data updated during regular backups
  • Data compression option

Note

To optimize your costs, consider removing the backups of the deleted VMs or the BareMetal servers you stopped renting.

The size of resource backups can fall short of the resource disk size, e.g., if the disk usage is low and the level of data compression is high, or exceed it, e.g., when there are many backups and their data is continuously modified and poorly compressed.

Prices for the Russia regionPrices for the Russia region

Note

Prices for Yandex Cloud resources vary based on the region. For more information about the available regions, see Regions.

The currency you can use to pay for the resources depends on which legal entity you entered into agreement with. For more information on creating an account, see Registering an account in Yandex Cloud.

The monthly prices are based on 720 hours per month.

Cost calculation exampleCost calculation example

Here is an example of calculating the cost of Cloud Backup for one month for the following configuration:

  • One VM is linked to backup policies.
  • Total size of backups is 50 GB.
Calculating cost in RUB
Calculating cost in KZT

1 VM × ₽257.9040 + 50 GB × ₽4.5360 = ₽484.704

Total: ₽484.704, cost of using Cloud Backup to protect 1 VM with a total of 50 GB of backups per month, including VAT.

Where:

  • 1: Number of VMs linked to backup policies.
  • ₽257.9040: Price of connecting 1 VM to Cloud Backup per month, including VAT.
  • 50 GB: Total size of backups.
  • ₽4.5360: Price of storing 1 GB of backups per month, including VAT.

1 VM × ₸1289.52 + 50 GB × ₸22.68 = ₸2,423.52

Total: ₸2,423.52, cost of using Cloud Backup to protect 1 VM with a total of 50 GB of backups per month, including VAT.

Where:

  • 1: Number of VMs linked to backup policies.
  • ₸1289.52: Price of connecting 1 VM to Cloud Backup per month, including VAT.
  • 50 GB: Total size of backups.
  • ₸22.68: Price of storing 1 GB of backups per month, including VAT.
